Youth alleges he was beaten up by cops at Salt Lake City Centre

Summary: In December 2015, a civic cop, who extorted Rs 4,100 from students outside Salt Lake ‘s City Centre or "getting intimate", was sacked and departmental proceedings were initiated against others who are part of a money-making racket in the name of moral policing. "The youth – who received injuries in his eyes – met the top officers of Bidhannagar commissionarate who have promised full help to the victim. Ojha claimed that after he protested, the five cops pinned him down to the ground and kicked and punched him. It is then that we slapped the case against him. They alleged that he was under the influence of alcohol.

KOLKATA: A youth — identified as Partha Ojha , residing in the Burtolla area of north Kolkata — who had gone to the Azad Hind dhaba located near City Centre has alleged that he was stopped by five cops of Bidhannagar police and was allegedly beaten up on charges of "misconduct" and allegations that he was "under the influence of alcohol."The youth – who received injuries in his eyes – met the top officers of Bidhannagar commissionarate who have promised full help to the victim. A probe in this regard has been initiated by the Bidhannagar North police after specific instructions from the police commissioner Gyanwant Singh.According to sources, Ojha had gone to City Centre area on April 12 and was chatting with friends late in the evening when the police men on the round stopped him. They alleged that he was under the influence of alcohol.

Ojha claimed that after he protested, the five cops pinned him down to the ground and kicked and punched him. As a result, he suffered deep injuries in his eyes. The cops also slapped a case of creating public nuisance and Ojha had to apply for bail.According to his family, the victim had to be rushed to the Medical College for treatment and is still being treated by doctors.
