Salt Lake City’s housing market cracked the top 25 in a new report from WalletHub released Monday.

WalletHub ranked the best and worst places nationwide for first-time homebuyers to purchase a home.

“Buying a home for the first time is an exciting and important milestone for many Americans,” the report said. “As such, first-time homebuyers must carefully consider a number of factors — what they want and need relative to what they can afford, for instance — before diving to the deep end of real estate.

Though Salt Lake City did not make the report’s primary list, it did earn the No. 16 spot when cities were ranked by size.

Specifically, Salt Lake City ranked No. 16 in the midsize cities category.

The Utah capital ranked just behind Madison, Wisconsin, but ahead of Garland and Amarillo Texas.

Salt Lake City also ranked ahead of notable cities such as Orlando (No. 21), Scottsdale, Arizona (No. 20), and St. Paul, Minnesota (No. 25).

In the primary list, McKinney, Texas, earned the top spot, placing ahead of two other Texas cities, Frisco and Allen. Meanwhile, Cary, North Carolina, and Norman, Oklahoma, rounded out the top five.

A handful of Colorado cities ranked in the primary list, too, including Thornton (No. 9), Greeley (No. 12) and Arvada (No. 17).

The report ranked cities on a number of other categories, including the rent-to-price ratio, cities with the most affordable housing and cities with the lowest cost of living.

Salt Lake City ranked second-to-last in highest property-crime rate, meaning the city had the second least amount of property crime, according to WalletHub.
