One man was dead, three people injured and another man in custody in the aftermath of what police called a case of aggravated assault Tuesday morning in west Salt Lake City.
Salt Lake City police Detective Greg Wilking said investigation had just begun into case, which spread over multiple crime scenes on 500 South, near the Uptown Security Storage facility at 500 West, and under a freeway overpass at 600 West, between 7 a.m. and 7:30 a.m.

As of 8:45 a.m., Wilking could not immediately describe the sequence of events, but said early indications were that no gunfire was involved.
Initially, it appeared the victim was beaten to death, having suffered head trauma, but what object was used in the slaying had not been determined.
"All we know [for sure] right now is that it is an aggravated assault and someone is dead," Wilking said.
Police have scheduled a 2 p.m. press conference to discuss the case. The Tribune will update this story is more details develop.
